Gryphons are animals native to Heaven. They have birdlike heads, forelegs and wings, and catlike hindquarters, but beyond this they vary widely in appearance. Gryphons are clever and trainable, but are not actually intelligent.
Gryphons are often found in the company of healer angels, who use them to ferry supplies and carry angels too badly wounded to fly.
